Earlier this summer I had the opportunity to shoot photos for two great musicians, Dusty Workman and Travis Marvin, while they performed during the filming of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition in Ottawa, KS. At the end of the event Travis approached me about shooting some photos for his upcoming CD. He’s been making quite a name for himself in the country music world – in fact, some of you many have seen him when he opened for Kenny Chesney in Kansas City earlier this summer. So, we got together a few weeks ago for a photo shoot and he even hosted a Facebook competition asking for his fans’ input on what picture to use for cover art.
We were excited to learn that Travis’ self-titled album was released on iTunes this month! Be sure and check it out – it will be money well spent!! And, you’ll get a dose of Ken Doll Photography as the cover art!
A few weeks ago we shared some maternity pictures of the beautiful Megan and her husband Lee. Last year we were lucky enough to shoot their wedding and we were so excited to hear that this year they had a baby on the way.
Baby Miliana made her appearance in the world earlier this month and last week they stopped by for her newborn photo session. Such a sweet and beautiful little girl!

Cooler weather has finally arrived in Kansas and it was a welcome change this past weekend for Melanie and Josh’s beautiful wedding in Dover, KS. After a touching ceremony, the couple rode off in a horse-drawn carriage with Melanie’s grandfather in the driver’s seat. The couple rode for a few blocks to a former elementary school in town where their reception was held. And wow, what a job Melanie, her mother, and many friends and family did to decorate for the reception. It was beautiful and filled with some many amazing special touches, including many family photos and even Melanie’s grandmother’s wedding gown on display. One of the coolest parts about the reception was the band that Melanie’s father, and many other relatives play in, performed at the reception. The cool Kansas evening, coupled with great music and a wonderful occasion to celebrate made for an amazing reception.

So, we may be a bit biased since we’ve known these three forever, but what great kids! We always love getting to take pictures of this family and had a great time traveling to their home in Lawrence for this shoot. We can see the unique personalities of each of them in these pictures, which makes it even more special.
I LOVE finding new places to shoot, so I was really excited when Lacey suggested her grandparents’ barn for a place to take engagement pictures. I loaded up the truck (which needed some washing after that trip) and headed east of town to meet Lacey and Blake. It was a beautiful day and we got some amazing shots. I can’t wait until their wedding later this fall – we’re going to have a blast!
We had a GREAT (and wet) engagement shoot this morning in Lawrence! Kim and Chad were so much fun and such great sports – I couldn’t resist sharing just one quick pic. Many more fun ones to come. In fact, we had such a great time this morning Kim and Chad are coming back for round two tonight. We’ve got a fun idea up our sleeves, but we’ll just keep that our little secret for now.
